Hello Alcoholics! Welcome to the April Edition of the blog. Hope everybody had a great month. Can you believe it is almost May already? Summer is already barking at our doors, and you know how we do out here in Nevada...keep it real hot. Anyways, let's dive into this. (Possible Spoilers, sorry not sorry.)
I know this has been out for a little while, but I just recently downloaded the free roguelite DLC released by Santa Monica studio and gave it a crack. While I've not really been a fan of this type of add-on/DLC (Far Cry 6 being the most recent iteration that I disliked), this one actually has some real fluid to its story. Each time I have had to 'start over', it's been fulfilling. More to do, different things to do, etc. Not the same old thing.
You start out as Kratos of course, moving along with Mimir (The severed head) in a boat to some mysterious world that even he knows nothing really of. Odin supposedly kept it under wraps. Anyways, you begin with Kratos being Kratos. Doing what he wants, his way, all that, and learning quickly that Valhalla is not to be trifled with when it comes to its rules. You end up back on the shore with no other option but to get hovered over by the Freya and the rest of the Valkyries such as Sigrun (badass fight in the first game).
To make things worse, you do sort of end up in the same cycle loop and have to do similar things to get to each stage's final boss which seems sofar to be a challenge battle with Tyr. From all of the glyphs and relics and upgrades you find along the way, as well as all of the cosmetic swag you gather, this is definitely a winner of a DLC in my book. I do on a con I guess, only find myself playing it maybe twice in a row of defeats, where I have to take a break from it until the next day. And that's ok because I don't want to ever become dissatisfied with the GoW series. They already tried that with Ascension back in the day and failed. I'm still a solid fan.
Overall, I give this DLC a 9/10. Ticking off a perfect score for the monotony that comes with roguelite game modes, but that's not totally their fault. Just part of the production.
Until next time guys...drink one for me!
